The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
A broken and a contrite heart—
These, O God, You will not despise. Psalm 51:17

The sacrifice God requires of us is not hard to understand when looking at it from the perspective of a man who buys a broken and uninhabitable house for the purpose of rebuilding it. Think about all that goes into that process! There are those who know every aspect of what it takes to build or renovate a home, and those who only know how to live in them. God knows how to do both. There are those who know by experience how much resource is required to build or renovate a home and those who only live in them, having no clue that one leaking pipe can lead to thousands of dollars of repair, depleting an already low (if not empty) bank account. God is the resource and has the “know how” to look at broken people and renovate there hearts. He will rebuild if necessary, but there is never a moment where God is confused or perplexed with the task of making us whole and habitable for His Spirit to dwell. If He is not in us we have no other way to get clean. We are more than just habitations for God.  God doesn’t need us! He desires us! While we are in the flesh we must be broken down and rebuilt every day for the sake of The Cross. In us (that is, in our flesh) dwells no good thing. Therefore, since our spirit (forever alive in Christ) is confined to this dying flesh everyday, inside it looks much like a Monarch butterfly waiting to break through its cocoon. Scientists have done experiments where they helped a butterfly get out of its cocoon and found that it did irreparable damage because its wings did not strengthen properly through the natural struggle of its escape. I’m reminded of God’s word to Jeremiah – If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, Then how can you contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, In which you trusted, they wearied you, Then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan (Jeremiah 12:5)? God knows when we need help and when we need to push through. We must be confident in God’s plan for the end result which will stand gloriously forever!

Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,  who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house. For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house. For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God.  And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward,  but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.   Hebrews 3:1-6

Remember this; God loves you and gave his Son as a living sacrifice for your sins. He is building you into something wonderful that will last for all eternity.
