You cannot change the mountain you are on. If your destination is to the top, then there is only one way to get there; up. No matter how many paths you may find, shortcuts, or detours, the only way to get to the top of a mountain is to keep moving upward. It is easier if there is a beaten path already made for you to walk up. It is, of course, much more difficult to traverse the rugged and untouched landscape from bottom to top. You can change your direction, pace, or goal, but you cannot change the distance, direction, or landscape of the mountain from its base to its peak. It is what it is – and if you are to conquer it then it has to be done with resolve and will power, determination and trust, fortitude and strength. The mountain never grows bigger; these things only grow smaller when facing it.
Sometimes God is much like the mountain we face. Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out (Romans 11:33)? We know there is a peak. That peak for us (in Christ Jesus) is the Fathers good pleasure. Everything else around the peak elevates towards that! But while ascending through the rigors and desperation to get there – when we find it – He tells us to go back down again with the precious memory of what it looks like – so that we can encourage, strengthen, and give hope to those who have fallen behind – peradventure, we are strengthened ourselves by the notion that we are not alone in the fight when the peak is no longer visible to our weary eyes.
